A man was found dead in a crashed car in woods along Interstate 40 after an Interstate Motorist Assistance Patrol driver spotted the car once the sun rose Wednesday.
The car, a 2004 Kia Sorrento, had smashed into a tree near the Jones Sausage Road interchange, Lt. Jeff Gordon of the State Highway Patrol said.
The victim was identified as Walid Ahmad Abu-Hamra, 52, of 5203 West Pine Court, Raleigh.
Accident investigators suspected that the car hydroplaned on the wet highway during the night, sending it off the pavement, Gordon said.
