UPDATE: Weather alert issued for North Carolina until Sunday morning

On Sunday at 2:04 a.m. an updated special weather statement was issued by the NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC until 10 a.m. The alert is for Northern Jackson, Southern Jackson, Caldwell Mountains, Greater Caldwell, Burke Mountains, Greater Burke, McDowell Mountains, Eastern McDowell, Rutherford Mountains, Greater Rutherford, Polk Mountains and Eastern Polk as well as Avery, Alexander, Iredell, Davie, Madison, Yancey, Mitchell, Swain, Haywood, Buncombe, Catawba, Rowan, Graham, Macon, Transylvania, Henderson, Cleveland, Lincoln, Gaston, Mecklenburg, Cabarrus and Union counties.
"Areas of dense fog have developed, with visibilities as low as 1 statute mile, and in isolated locations as low as 1/2 statute mile, across the region. Visibility the rest of tonight will be highly variable, often changing quickly and across short distances. Drive cautiously, turn on your low-beam headlights, and increase your following distance on all roadways," adds the NWS.
This alert is in effect until 10 a.m.
