President Barack Obama on Monday designated parts of North Carolina a disaster zone and ordered federal aid to help with local efforts to recover from the winter storm of March 6 and 7.
The designation applies to Orange, Alamance, Randolph, Guilford, Caswell, Davidson, Davie, Granville and Person counties.
Federal funding is available for hazard mitigation, emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the storm.
