Governments across the Triangle canceled meetings on Tuesday as icy roads temporarily trumped the public’s business.
So, as the ice melts, residents and elected officials alike will be looking to their calendars to reschedule the debating and procedures that make the world go ’round.
• TheRaleigh City Council
nixed a work session and a public meeting that would have included a controversial rezoning for an apartment project at Furches and Hillsborough streets.
The council settled procedural matters at an earlier Monday meeting, but the Hillsborough rezoning and other items will have to wait for the council’s March 3 meeting, likely making it a long one.
The delays could cascade, too. As a result, a public hearing for the proposed grocery-store rezoning at Falls of Neuse and Dunn roads now can’t happen until mid-March.
The city also postponed a public meeting on proposed pedestrian improvements along New Hope Church Road until 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Green Road Park Community Center.
• TheWake County Board of Education
initially delayed its Tuesday public meeting until Thursday at 5:30 p.m., then canceled it altogether.
• TheWake Technical Community College Board of Trustees
canceled its Tuesday morning meeting.
• TheApex Town Council
will meet briefly on Tuesday night, but nearly all of the agenda items will be moved to a later date. The agenda included nine public hearings.
• TheCary Committee for the Future
delayed its Tuesday meeting. It next meets on March 17.
• The town ofChapel Hill
canceled its Monday night Town Council meeting, shuffling items to its Feb. 23 meeting. An agenda wasn’t available on Tuesday.
• TheClayton Town Council
will meet Thursday at 3 p.m., replacing its Monday night meeting.
• Monday night’sDurham City Council
meeting and the State of the City address were rescheduled to Thursday at 5 p.m. The meeting was to include authorization of a new “open data” portal for the city.
canceled its Tuesday night board meeting and hadn’t rescheduled by Tuesday afternoon. The meeting would have included talks abouta local businessman’s proposal to build an arts and conference center.
closed Town Hall on Tuesday and canceled its council meeting for the day. The meeting, which was rescheduled for Feb. 24 at 5 p.m., will include discussion of pay raises for staff and a proposed cellular tower on Jordan Road.
• TheHolly Springs Town Council
didn’t meet Tuesday night, and the town hadn’t announced its plans to reschedule. The meeting included a presentation by Wake County about transit.
• TheOrange County Board of Commissioners
canceled its Tuesday night meeting. A new date wasn’t immediately announced. The meeting was scheduled to include a step in the scheduling of a bond referendum and consideration of an interlocal agreement about Hollow Rock Park and Natural Area.
• TheSmithfield Town Council
canceled its Tuesday night budgeting session.
• TheWake Forest State of the Town
address was moved from Monday night to Feb. 23 at 6 p.m.
• TheWendell Planning Board
will meet on Thursday at 7 p.m. Its meeting was originally scheduled for Monday.
