Clayton firefighters rescued a woman from her car after it flipped into a flooded ditch on Wedneday.

In social media posts Wednesday evening, Clayton police said Amelia Church and Guy roads had been shut down after a woman’s car flipped into a ditch full of water. The roads reopened as of about 8:30 p.m.

Clayton firefighters had to cut her out as the car filled with water.

The woman was transported to WakeMed with injuries that were not life threatening, police said.

Photos show at least eight emergency responders surrounding the car and working to free the woman.

The wreck happened after storms blew through the area bringing heavy rain and some localized flooding. It was unclear if the weather or road conditions contributed to the wreck, but Clayton police asked people to be cautious if they had to drive Wednesday evening.
