Dense fog made for some hazy Tuesday morning commutes, but it also led to some uncommon scenery in central North Carolina and surrounding areas.

A fog advisory the National Weather Service issued initially covered the western Piedmont and Foothills regions, but was expanded to cover all of the central part of the state.

Some people documented magical sights from otherwise ordinary locations.

Robby Hughes shared photos of fog making White Lake in Bladen County “look never-ending.”

Dwayne Reaves posted a photo of a train track disappearing into the mist.

Others compared the foggy views with popular horror stories.

Downtown Raleigh was a total blur before sunrise and visibility wasn’t much better once daylight reached Morrisville.

Once the advisory was lifted early, some people rejoiced – for the time being, anyway.
