The Triangle could be in for a noisy afternoon and evening from thunder and hailstones as conditions develop Wednesday to make storms possible, the National Weather Service said.
Storms were not expected to bring a lot of rain, however.
“Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to develop and move east-southeast across the northern Piedmont and northern Coastal Plain this afternoon and evening,” forecasters said. “Some storms may become severe with damaging wind gusts and hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter.”
The chance of rain ranged from 50 percent in western parts of the Triangle in the afternoon to 40 percent farther east.
