I recently received a notice from the Town of Cary regarding a request by a housing management company to rezone a nearby property from one home per acre to five homes per acre. The applicant’s minimum estimate for the increase in students from this development is 38 students.
As the N.C. state legislature has voted to prohibit Wake County voters from increasing sales taxes to pay for schools and also voted not to automatically increase school funding to support enrollment growth, I intend to oppose the zoning change as it will increase the enrollment in the local schools and decrease the effective per-student funding.
