The Sept. 3 news article “ Stance on Medicaid may cost N.C. $10 billion” highlighting the cost to the state for opting out of the available increase in Medicaid funding seems to fail North Carolinians on two fronts.
First, it’s just downright illogical to pay billions to care for folks in other states (we have no choice) while passing up billions to care for our own folks here at home (our legislature’s self-inflicted wound).
Second, it fails any test of compassion to deny coverage to hundreds of thousands of our residents, many of whom are children, elderly, blind or disabled. There is no way to explain away this blunder. It needs to be fixed and fixed soon.
