Your Sept. 18 editorial “ Fooling voters” was interesting. A few things bothered me however.
Whether I am for or against voter ID, I find it difficult to be convinced by your reasoning to be opposed. If both the elected legislative majority and 70 percent of North Carolinians polled agree with voter ID, you are pretty much in the minority. That does not make you wrong or say that those large numbers reflect any correct stand, but it is hard to beat those odds.
Further, if, as you say, the real purpose of voter ID is to discourage people from voting, does that mean that when I have to show picture ID to cash a check, to get on an airplane, to visit a doctor or dentist or be admitted to a hospital, that the real purpose of such a requirement is to discourage me from cashing a check or flying or seeing my doctor or dentist or from going to the hospital?
I was not polled, but if I were, I think I would not be swayed by your editorial.
