It shouldn’t be necessary to explain how democracies work, but apparently there is still a need to explain that the majority cannot vote away the rights of a minority. It makes no difference that 60 percent of North Carolina voters who voted in that particular election approved an unconstitutional amendment to the state Constitution.
The courts have made it clear that the U.S. Constitution trumps the state constitution.
My suggestion is that anyone who doesn’t believe in same-sex marriages should avoid marrying someone of the same sex.
