Regarding the Oct. 23 news article “ Fake-class scheme aided UNC players’ eligibility”: Mary Willingham, the clinical instructor and academic adviser who blew a loud moral whistle on the cheating and abject fraud by UNC athletes and suffered denigration, castigation, humiliation and vilification, should receive a public apology from the administration for her courage and honesty.
There are other faculty as well as the distinguished Professor Madeline Levine Emerati, who also voiced a warning to the chancellor.
This is moral vindication that supersedes any NCAA basketball championships or bowl games that UNC-Chapel Hill has participated in.
Let’s hope that the NCAA and the administration take bold corrective action and face meaningful and just penalties.
