Regarding the Nov. 7 Point of View “ On marriages and magistrates” by E. Gregory Wallace: Though I respect his efforts to present a “solution” to the conflict, I must take exception to his comparison of same-sex and interracial marriage.
Wallace stated that it took a Civil War and three constitutional amendments before interracial marriages were guaranteed. So is that the standard of what it takes to grant constitutionally guaranteed civil rights to people who love each other? We should “take care” not to grant these rights “too soon”? What a sad way to look at things.
