Regarding the Nov. 27 news article “ N.C. Board of Ed preps for skirmish over U.S. history course”: So the conservative movement wants to change the Advanced Placement U.S. History course to reflect a more positive and patriotic view of the path our nation took to get to where we are and the religious principles that our great nation was founded on.
So how, pray tell, is that different from Islamist groups that wish to incorporate Sharia into their schools? The story of our great nation (and it is great, but highly flawed) can be told with the for better/for worse and still be positive. Bad times can be overcome and improved upon. Now is one of those bad times on the education front, but it can be overcome.
Teachers need to beware when they get to the chapters on Native Americans, slave trade, civil rights, workers rights and the environmental issues of today: A stoning could be next.
