Regarding the Dec. 16 Point of View “ Torture and N.C. culpability”: The CIA’s extraordinary rendition of suspected terrorists reminded me of the trial in Jerusalem for war crimes of Adolf Eichmann, who managed the trains that took Jews to Nazi concentration camps. He denied that he hated Jews and portrayed himself as a government employee who was just doing his job.
Probably the owners of Aero Contractors in Smithfield, its pilots and the many other businesses and government officials mentioned in the article did not think about the torture awaiting passengers at the end of the flights. They may excuse their evil deeds as Eichmann did; they were just doing their job.
The United States routinely criticizes others for committing human rights abuses. And yet the CIA always has lots of money to pay people to do their dirty work.
