David Crump: Saving best and brightest

Regarding the Jan. 11 column “ That annual physical? Skip it”: Ezekiel Emanuel is right on target. Skip that physical and save the United States billions of dollars.

Keep in mind that Emanuel also is a key adviser on the Independent Payment Advisory Board, which decides which treatments Medicare will pay for at certain ages for seniors. Got cancer at 80? We’ll pay for hospice but not treatment. But don’t worry.

Rest assured that whatever ailments befall Emanuel will be taken care of with the best physicians and facilities our money can buy. After all, the best and brightest are charged with the responsibility of saving us from ourselves. We must take care of them so they can continue their mission.
