James Rapp: No-good ethanol

Regarding the Jan. 13 letter “ No benefit to ethanol”: Thanks to the writer for pointing out the negative effects of ethanol fuel. He could have also mentioned that the fuel is harmful to motorcycle, ATV engines and many types of car engines in studies cited by the EPA.

Furthermore, diverting corn production to ethanol has driven up the price of feed, which is another hit to the consumer.

And Congress is considering increasing ethanol to E15 or 15 percent from the current 10 percent.

It is really time to dump this as a fuel source. It produces no net environmental benefit and may even increase the number of pollutants along with damaging engines and adding to food costs.
