Bill Dupere: Meritocracy overload

Regarding the Jan. 14 editorial “ Dream booster”: Allow me to question one sentence in your editorial. Surely it was a typo. Perhaps you meant to say, “The intransigence of the N&O toward Republicans is beginning to get wearisome.” As a matter of public policy, why should we subsidize the continued education of those who made only a 2.5 GPA in high school?

As proposed, this initiative is illustrative of why many Republicans now have an issue with this president: Meritocracy is not a primary eligibility requirement for any form of public assistance.
