The Jan. 19 editorial “ MLK today” on Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy made some fine points. But it is sad yet entirely predictable that it once again attempted to malign the Republican Party, implying that its power is somehow illegitimate because of its popularity in “former states of the Confederacy.”
Perhaps the editorial writer missed George Will’s column (“ Mitt’s third run would be no chart”) on the same page, in which he points out that Republicans currently occupy 31 governorships. These include “union” states such as Ohio, Massachusetts, Michigan and Illinois.
