I am a public school teacher with four teenage children. After reading the Jan. 27 Point of View “ Excluding veteran teachers? Brilliant” and the Jan. 28 news article “ Teacher training could change,” I agree with the parents who dissuade their children from pursuing an education major. I have forbidden mine.
Political micromanagement, a pay scale built around disincentives for further education and experience and a lifetime of general disrespect from all sides prove to me that an $80,000 investment in a college degree to major in education is not a good idea.
