In reference to the Feb. 3 Life, etc. article “ Crash course” pertaining to bike polo: I find it odd that Michelle Willcox was wearing a helmet while assisting a friend repairing the bicycle seat but not wearing one while participating in a game wherein accidents are likely to happen.
Having been an avid cyclist for more than 40 years and having witnessed numerous accidents, including my own, I feel somewhat qualified to express the importance of wearing a helmet at all times while biking. Practically every accident witnessed, the rider’s head struck the road surface. Not a one received head injures for they were all wearing helmets. One rider’s helmet actually cracked.
One can only imagine what might have been the results had that person not been wearing a helmet.
