Regarding the Feb. 7 brief “ ECU medical school in financial trouble”: It follows with the chancellor saying the medical school could close in five years. What? This school was the jewel in the crown of public effort to bring expanded jobs and medical care to Eastern North Carolina.
Who is monitoring the situation? Why did the medical school lose $14 million because of state restrictions? Why did the state create these restrictions and thus cause such a problem? The loss of an institution like ECU’s medical school would have a chilling effect in an already struggling part of our state.
