Regarding the March 31 news article “N.C. to debate religion bill”: The North Carolina legislature is letting down the progressive residents of this fine state. The proposed Religious Freedom Act does not measure up to the more stringent laws passed or proposed in other states.
For example, legislation being considered in Texas would strip the salaries and pensions of clerks who issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples – even if the Supreme Court strikes down Texas’ marriage ban later this year.
How can we hold our heads high if our legislature does not keep us in the front ranks of laws designed to promote bigotry and discrimination?
