At first glance, the headline of the May 22 business article “NC renewable energy tax credits surged in 2014” might have looked as though the solar energy tax credits are costing the state a lot of money – $127 million in 2014 – a concern in this budget season. But they also generated $717 million.
Why, then, would the legislature now be considering capping and ending them? What’s worse, they have already voted to cap the Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard, which creates incentive for the power companies to build not only solar but also other renewable energy capacity.
I thought Republicans supported business, especially businesses that create jobs, especially jobs that can’t be outsourced.
Why aren’t the Republicans in the legislature acting like Republicans?
