Stephen C. Scott: Modernizing Wake Tech

We have an important opportunity, and a responsibility, in the election Tuesday. We’ll be voting on the Connect NC bond, which will help North Carolina’s 58 community colleges and help our state remain economically strong.

Wake Tech and community colleges throughout North Carolina provide affordable, practical education, preparing workers of all ages for today’s jobs. Community colleges are a powerful economic resource, expanding the skilled workforce we’re known for, growing the tax base and sharpening our competitive edge.

Wake Tech is more than 50 years old, and many of our facilities are showing their age. If approved, the bond will provide much-needed funds for renovations and technology upgrades. We’ll modernize welding, electrical, HVAC and plumbing labs, where students prepare to fill an expanding “skills gap” in the workforce. We’ll upfit other buildings to meet ADA requirements, add more security cameras and upgrade technology to meet growing demand for online courses.

I encourage everyone to vote for the Connect NC bond to help our community grow stronger and greater.

Stephen C. Scott

President, Wake Technical Community College
