Regarding the July 6 news brief item “Council rejects group’s request”: The Raleigh City Council voted, unanimously, to deny a rezoning request that would have allowed a crisis pregnancy center to open next door to a clinic that provides abortion services.
This is the correct resolution to this issue. Indeed, the council heeded the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision to ensure that women’s constitutional right to abortion is protected.
The government must not put up barriers or “undue burdens” to exercising this right.
Freedom from government interference into our private lives applies to women and men, Democrats and Republicans and people of all religions.
I trust women to consider all options carefully with their families, doctors and spiritual authority before making such a difficult and personal life determination.
Thanks go to council members.
