Regarding the June 30 news article “7 things in the state budget you might have missed”: Thank you for scrutinizing the little-noticed budget items. Once again, our legislators are finding ways to pit teachers against teachers.
Why are they rewarding only third-grade teachers? Teachers in other grades are also evaluated for their test scores. What is their reward?
The $6,800 bonus is significantly more than teachers’ pay increases. The $10 million allocation would be used more wisely to reward any teacher whose students see the biggest improvement in test scores.
I agree with Senate budget writer Harry Brown. “That makes me want to be a third grade teacher.”
