Angels Lose Jorge Soler to IL

The Los Angeles Angels will be without one of their veteran players for the foreseeable future.

The Angels announced that they're placing veteran outfielder/designated hitterJorge Soler on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 4) with a left oblique strain. Los Angeles is also reinstating first baseman Nolan Schanuel (ankle) from the IL and placing outfielder Gustavo Campero on the 10-day IL with a right-hand fracture. Catcher Omar Martinez was also designated for assignment in a flurry of roster moves.

Soler being placed on the IL is certainly the most significant move after he was scratched before Friday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to hip tightness. Soler also exited the Angels' game early on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies.

The 34-year-old is in his second season with the Angels after he was acquired from the Atlanta Braves in October 2024. He appeared in just 82 games last season, slashing .215/.293/.387 with 12 home runs, 34 RBI, and an OPS of .680. Soler's 2025 campaign ended when he was placed on the 10-day IL with lower back inflammation on July 26 and later transferred to the 60-day IL.

In 58 games this season, Soler is batting .220/.300/.402 with nine homers, 33 RBI and a .702 OPS.

Soler's 2026 season also featured a moment during the Angels' game against the aforementioned Braves on April 7. Braves starter Reynaldo López threw a pitch at Soler, who took exception and charged the mound, resulting in multiple punches being thrown. Major League Baseball suspended both Soler and López for seven games. Soler's suspension was reduced to four after appealing.

With Soler on the shelf, Nolan Schanuel will be taking over his spot on the active roster. The 24-year-old has been on the IL since May 27 due to left ankle tendinitis. He is batting fifth tonight for the Angels and starting at first base in the middle game of their three-game series against the Dodgers.
