Like Grant Hill, Bobby Hurley was a member of the 1991 and 1992 national championship teams. Hurley, in his second year as coach at Buffalo, is the NCAA’s all-time assists leader.
“The greatest thing that I liked about playing for Coach K was that he got after us so hard on the practice court and didn’t give an inch. Same thing in the film room. But when the lights were on and it was time to play, he trusted you to go out there and perform. He didn’t try to coach every dribble and every pass in the game.
“I’ll always remember even when I was graduating, my last game, just the emotion, the genuine emotion that he felt for not having a chance to coach me anymore. It was something that made me feel great, that someone that is as good as he is and what he’s done, that me not playing for him anymore had that much meaning to him. That I’ll always remember.”
