Jon Scheyer was the point guard for Duke’s 2010 national championship team.
“I always had a great understanding of what Coach was looking for and wanted from his players. I think it took more confidence – by the time you become older as a junior and a senior – I became more confident, I asserted myself more and just did things without him having to say it. Whereas freshman year I might have waited for him, waited for his signal to do some of those things. When you know what someone is thinking without him having to say it, that’s when you are really close. That’s what I was able to do my last couple of years here.
“For me, the game I will always remember is the Baylor game (in the regional final), just because I think that was a big hump. Truly, I would have never been OK the rest of my life if I didn’t go to a Final Four. That is 100 percent true. I would have felt miserable if I came to Duke and didn’t go to a Final Four. That’s why I came here.
“Once that team beat Baylor, I thought we were going to win it all because the pressure was just off. All (of) the sudden, you could see it in that next game when we played West Virginia, we just played so free. I’ll never forget celebrating after the Baylor game.”
