N.C. State women’s basketball added a much-needed body to its thin frontcourt with the signing of a top SEC transfer.
Vanderbilt forward Khamil Pierre announced via On3 Sports on Tuesday that she has committed to the Wolfpack. The school, which announced her addition shortly after news broke of her commitment, has not confirmed that she will have immediate eligibility, but it is expected that she will play. Pierre has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
“Coach Wes [Moore] has built a great culture at N.C. State,” Pierre told On3. “It’s become one of the powerhouses in the ACC, and I’m excited to be part of such a strong program and coaching staff.”
She is the second transfer Wes Moore has landed, after former UConn guard Qadence Samuels signed with the program in May.
“We’re super excited to add Khamil to the Pack,” Moore said in a statement. “We had recruited her out of high school and are thankful for a second chance to work with her. She’s been a walking double-double at the Power Four level and will make an immediate impact for our program.”
Pierre, listed at 6 feet, 2 inches, played two seasons at Vanderbilt. She averaged 20.4 points on 49.8% shooting, 9.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2 steals last season as a sophomore. She was the only player in the country with those averages.
The forward started in all 32 games of the 2024-25 season and finished with 652 points, 308 rebounds, 68 assists, 94 steals and eight blocks.
In her sophomore campaign, Pierre recorded 17 double-doubles, scored in double figures in all but one game, scored at least 20 points in 16 games and notched a career-high 42 points and 18 rebounds in the team’s win over Evansville.
She contributed double digits in points or rebounds in every game against a Power Four opponent.
Despite being left off the All-SEC teams, Pierre earned WBCA All-America Honorable Mention.
Pierre was dismissed from the Commodores team a little more than two weeks ago, after the transfer portal closed in April. No details have been shared regarding her departure from Vanderbilt.
“Khamil is a great player, and I have no doubt she will have success in the future,” Vanderbilt head coach Shea Ralph said in a statement. “Ultimately, it was determined it would be best for Khamil and our program to go in different directions. We wish her the best of luck.”
There were rumors mid-season that Pierre planned to enter the portal but she never did. Pierre also posted on social media about believing “in the vision” Ralph had for her.
N.C. State was in dire need of another frontcourt presence after Madison Hayes and Saniya Rivers graduated. It also lost Caitlin Weimar and Lizzy Williamson. The Wolfpack will have returners Tilda Trygger and Mallory Collier.
