North Carolina coach Larry Fedora has teamed up with the Fisher DeBerry Foundation and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for an upcoming charity event at the Blue Zone at Kenan Stadium.
“An Evening with Larry Fedora & Tar Heel Football Legends” is scheduled for June 17 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will benefit both the Fisher DeBerry Foundation and the FCA Chaplaincy Ministry at UNC, which is led in part by football team chaplain Mitch Mason.
The portion of the money that the DeBerry Foundation collects will remain in North Carolina, said Burt Trembley, who is among the organizers of the event. Those proceeds will help children from single-parent homes in North Carolina attend FCA camps, Trembley said.
Fedora and DeBerry, who was recently inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame, have remained close since they worked together at Air Force, where DeBerry was the head coach from 1984 through 2006. Fedora was DeBerry’s wide receivers coach at Air Force in 1997 and ’98.
Jones Angell, the radio play-by-play voice of UNC’s football and men’s basketball teams, will serve as the event’s master of ceremonies. Several former UNC football players, including current NFL players Jonathan Cooper, Eric Ebron and Sylvester Williams, are scheduled to attend.
The evening will include entertainment, food, drinks and a live and silent auction. The Dean Smith Community MVP Award will also be presented at the event, which will include a roundtable discussion with the former UNC players about their college playing days.
Tickets and sponsorships range from $250 to $10,000. More information about how to sponsor or attend An Evening with Larry Fedora & Tar Heel Football Legends can be found at www.tarheelfootballlegends.com.
