Duke running back Shaun Wilson continued his honor haul after Saturday’s record-breaking performance against Kansas as he was named the ACC Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
On Sunday, Wilson was selected as the Athlon Sports National Freshman of the Week. He is the first Duke freshman to receive the league’s rookie of the week honor since DeVon Edwards on Nov. 11, 2013.
The ACC’s other weekly honors included Boston College offensive back Tyler Murphy, offensive lineman Andy Gallik and linebacker Josh Keyes. Virginia defensive back Anthony Harris and specialist Ian Frye, Miami receiver Phillip Dorsett and Wake Forest defensive lineman Josh Banks.
ACC: North Carolina senior libero Ece Taner and N.C. State freshman middle blocker Kaitlyn Kearney earned ACC honors, as Taner was named player of the week and Kearney was freshman of the week.
ACC: Wake Forest is tied with UCLA for second place at the Powerade Cougar Classic in Hanahan, S.C., as both are at 569. Arkansas leads after two rounds at 4 under par 567. N.C. State (572) is fourth, Duke (574) is fifth and North Carolina (587) is tied for ninth with Tennessee.
Sierra Sims of Wake Forest is the individual leader at 11-under-par 133 after firing a 4-under 68 in the second round. Augusta James of N.C. State and Bronte Law of UCLA are three strokes back in a tie for second place at 8-under 136.
The final round of the 54-hole event will be played Tuesday at Yeamans Hall, which features a par-72, 6,204-yard layout.
Campbell: The men’s team achieved a national ranking for the first time since the end of the 2008 season, placing 25th in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll released Monday. The Camels are 3-0.
