St. Aug’s men win 400-meter relay at Virginia Tech

N.C. State remained undefeated on the season by completing the sweep against Sunday’s doubleheader opponents, Michigan State and N.C. Central. The Wolfpack won nine singles and four doubles matches.

In its 4-1 victory over Michigan State, The Wolfpack started strong by winning the doubles point. Austin Powell and Simon Norenius defeated Michigan State’s Mac Roy and Mike Dube 6-1. After Ian Dempster and Robbie Mudge dropped their first doubles match of the season, Nick Horton and Thomas Weigel rallied to win 7-5 and claim the doubles point.

For the second consecutive match, Powell picked up N.C. State’s first singles point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over No. 76 Gijs Linders.

In a 7-0 win against N.C. Central, the Wolfpack won the doubles point when the duo of Horton and Weigel captured their second consecutive match with a 6-1 win. Mudge and Dempster would follow with a 6-4 win.

Duke: The second-ranked women opened the dual match season with a hard-fought victory on the road, defeating William & Mary, 4-3, in Williamsburg, Va. The win marks the eighth straight season the Blue Devils opened dual match play with a victory.


N.C. State: The team came up short, falling at No. 3 Missouri, 29-10 in Columbia, Mo.

The Pack was forced to forfeit the first bout of the day at 133 pounds, and the Tigers kept the lead the entire dual after gaining those six points.
