* The midfielder won all-state honors as a sophomore.

Teams to watch

APEX

* Apex (19-3-1 in 2006) is among the top teams in the state. Jennifer Partenheimer is a UNC-Greensboro recruit. Alyson Santilli and Jordan Saylor are headed to N.C. State. Five other starters are back.

BROUGHTON

* Katie Evans and Mary Laurence McMillian are three-year starters for the defending state 4-A champions, who were 26-0-1 in 2006.

CARDINAL GIBBONS

* The Crusaders hope experience helps because they return nine starters from a 7-17 club.

DURHAM ACADEMY

* The Cavaliers lost in the NCISAA 3-A final but return 10 starters from a 17-2-2 club.

EAST CHAPEL HILL

* The Wildcats are coming off a 25-2-1 season.

SOUTHEAST RALEIGH

* Ten starters return from an 18-4-3 team, including Katie Jordan (UNC-Greensboro), Andrea Dunshie (Catawba) and Brittany Greaves (UNC-Pembroke).

WILSON FIKE

* The Demons finished 26-1 in 2006 and return nine starters.
