N&O wrestling rankings: Playoffs begin with a few changes

Thirteen teams in The News & Observer’s greater Triangle wrestling rankings will begin their quest for state dual-team titles this week. The NCHSAA dual-team playoffs host the first two rounds at the same venue.

The toughest draws go to N&O No. 5 Athens Drive, which must face reigning 4A East champ Jack Britt in the first round, No. 7 Chapel Hill, which will host reigning 3A state champ Morehead, and No. 4 Orange, which could face Moreheador Chapel Hill in the second round.

No. 1 Holly Springs and No. 11 Leesville Road are in the same foursome, and No. 12 Millbrook and No. 14 Riverside could advance from another group.

Undefeated No. 3 Corinth Holders will be in the same group as No. 10 Union Pines.

Millbrook, which forced a three-way share of the Cap Eight 4A title, returns to the area top 15.

No. 13 Sanderson’s dual-team season is done after it missed out on a playoff spot, and No. 15 Ravenscroft still is in its regular season.

The final top 15 will be withheld until the announcment of the N&O All-Metro team.
