N&O boys high school basketball rankings: Garner moves to No. 1

Garner vaults to No. 1 in The News & Observer high school boys basketball rankings following losses by the previous top two teams.

Broughton was on top last week, but lost to Leesville Road on Tuesday, 58-51. The Caps came back on Friday to knock off Millbrook, 82-73. The Wildcats had been second a week ago and were ranked No. 33 in the country by USA Today.

Garner, 18-1, was third last week. The Trojans’ loss was to Millbrook, 87-71 during the Holiday Invitational.

Jordan, 18-1, remains at No. 4. The Falcons lost 77-75 in triple overtime to The Burlington (N.C.) School in the South Granville Holiday Tournament.

Cardinal Gibbons and Knightdale enter the rankings at No. 11 and No.12.

There is little change in the girls rankings with Southeast Raleigh, Riverside, Millbrook, Hillside and Chapel Hill dominating the first five spots. Green Hope slides into the No. 15 position.
