Love, Brabrand lead 2013 Cap Eight all-conference football team

Wakefield High quarterback Evan Brabrand and Wake Forest running back Bryce Love share football player of the year honors in the Cap Eight 4A Conference.

Love helped lead Wake Forest to the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4AA finals while Brabrand helped Wakefield to the regular-season conference title.

Love, a junior, rushed for 1,973, averaging 123.3 per game. He led the Cougars with 27 touchdowns. Brabrand stepped in as a first-year quarterback to lead the Wolverines with 2,899 passing yards. He averaged 223 per game.

Brabrand was joined on the honorees list by Wakefield coach Rod Sink, who was named coach of the year.

Leesville Road’s Malcolm Hitchcock, who played running back and quarterback, was the offensive player of the year, and lineman Sam Blue was the defensive player of the year. Broughton kicker Andrew King was the special teams player of the year.
