• Charlotte Bobcats coach Steve Clifford said pre-game he’s “optimistic” small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist won’t be out long after being diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in his right foot.
Kidd-Gilchrist missed his first game of the season, versus the Bucks, with the injury. He started feeling symptoms in the second half of Wednesday’s loss to the Indiana Pacers, and was sore enough Thursday that his foot was placed in a protective boot.

With Kidd-Gilchrist sitting, Jeff Taylor got his first start of the season. The Bobcats could really use Kidd-Gilchrist back Sunday, since they’ll need all the mid-sized bodies possible to guard LeBron James in Miami.
• Kidd-Gilchrist’s injury opened up the first significant minutes for Ben Gordon this season. Gordon played nine minutes in the first half, making 1-of-2 shots from the field and both free throws. Gordon had played in only one previous game, the blowout loss in New Orleans.
• The Bucks are a pretty small team, allowing Clifford to play Gerald Henderson some at small forward. If Kidd-Gilchrist is out for several games, look for Anthony Tolliver to log minutes at small forward in certain matchups.
