• By the end of this week, the Bobcats will have played 16 sets of back-to-back games. The results, particularly in back ends, have not been impressive. “For us to finish the season the way we want, we have to do better in the second game of back-to-backs,” coach Steve Clifford said Wednesday.
This next set is a little different, in that the Bobcats will play home games Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans and Saturday against the Memphis Grizzlies. Clifford hopes the lack of travel will conserve some of his team’s energy.

• The Bobcats got Michael Kidd-Gilchrist a post-up opportunity against Kyle Singler during the second quarter for an easy jump hook. Wish that happened more often. I realize you want Al Jefferson the post as much as possible, for that gets MKG involved offensively.
• Josh Smith might wind up one of the great free-agent follies in recent memory. The Pistons signed him for more than $67 million over the summer. Wednesday it took him seven shots to score.
• I hope if the Bobcats don’t trade Ben Gordon’s expiring contract Thursday, they release him. It would be the respectful thing to do with a veteran who clearly isn’t in the plans the rest of the season.
