Defenseman Haydn Fleury, the Canes' first-round pick in this year's draft, will be among the team’s prospects competing in the Traverse City (Mich.) rookie tournament next month.
The Canes released their 23-man roster Thursday for the event, set Sept. 12-16 and hosted by the Detroit Red Wings. Also playing for Carolina will be four former second-round picks: forwards Brock McGinn, Victor Rask and Phil Di Giuseppe, and goalie Alex Nedeljkovic.
Forward Sergey Tolchinsky, who recently attended Russia's World Junior preliminary camp, again will compete in the event. Also on the roster is defenseman Jake Chelios, the son of former NHL star Chris Chelios.
The team will be coached by Jeff Daniels, the head coach and general manager of the Charlotte Checkers. Daniels will be joined by Checkers assistant coach Geordie Kinnear.
