The Carolina Hurricanes reduced their training camp roster to 25 players Thursday, sending Haydn Fleury to his junior team and placing Jordan Staal on injured reserve.
Sent to the Charlotte Checkers training camp were: forwards Phil Di Giuseppe, Brock McGinn, Carter Sandlak, Brody Sutter and Brendan Woods, and defenseman Danny Biega. Placed on waiver, with the purpose of assigning them to the Checkers, were: goaltender Drew MacIntyre and defensemen Michal Jordan and Rasmus Rissanen.
Fleury, 18, a defenseman, was the Canes’ first-round draft pick this year and appeared in two exhibitions. He returns to the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League.
