The Carolina Hurricanes said Sunday that the infant daughter of Jordan and Heather Staal had died.

The Hurricanes issued the following statement: “The thoughts and prayers of the entire Hurricanes organization are with Jordan and Heather Staal on the loss of their infant daughter, Hannah. We ask that you please respect their family’s privacy at this time.”

Staal, a team co-captain, has missed the past two games. It is not known when he will rejoin the team.

The Hurricanes said donations in Hannah Staal’s honor can be sent to the Staal Family Foundation at 50 Bay Street, Suite 1444, Toronto, Ontario, M5J 3A5 or www.staalfoundation.org/donations.
