Canes call up Tolchinsky from Checkers

The Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday recalled forward Sergey Tolchinsky from the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.

Tolchinsky will be available to play on Thursday and could make his NHL debut when the Canes host the New York Rangers.

Tolchinsky, 21, is fourth among Checkers skaters this season with 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) in 65 games. The Moscow native is in his first full professional season after signing with the Hurricanes as an undrafted free agent on Aug. 22, 2013.

He has represented Russia in several international tournaments including the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, where Russia won gold, the 2013 U18 World Junior Championship and the 2015 World Junior Championship, winning silver.
