Gabrielle Union’s trip to Africa will be the subject of a new docuseries on BET+. The two-part special will follow the actress as she journeys around the continent in honor of her 50th birthday, visiting Zanzibar, Ghana’s coast, Namibia’s parks, South Africa’s nightlife, and more with her husband Dwyane Wade, family, friends, and loved ones.

In addition to Union and Wade, the series also stars Adair Curtis, Essence Atkins, Angie Martinez, Theresa Union (Gabrielle’s mother), Katie Union (Gabrielle’s aunt), Chelsea Union (Gabrielle’s niece), Tracy Union (Gabrielle’s sister), and Kaavia James Union Wade.

“We join Gabrielle, along with her family and closest friends, as she embarks on a journey that sheds light on the woman she once was and honors who she is in the present while discovering the deeply rooted badass that she has always been. On this journey, she’ll walk the path of her heritage, gain wisdom and shed what no longer works for her while welcoming others to relearn, rediscover and reconnect as we collectively celebrate our most authentic selves,” described the show’s official synopsis, according to Shadow And Act.

“I’ve always had a lifelong thirst for knowledge. Connecting with the birthplace of civilization and my own ancestry helped me inch closer to my true self,” Union shared in a statement. “There was no other place I wanted to spend my 50th birthday. It was an experience I’ll never forget and I’m excited for audiences to join me on the journey.”

Jesse Collins is bringing his production company, Jesse Collins Entertainment, on board as an executive producer for Union, highlights Variety.

“Jesse Collins Entertainment has had an amazing working relationship with Gabrielle over the years, so when given the opportunity to document this life-changing moment for her, we were thrilled to come on board,” Dionne Harmon, president of Jesse Collins Entertainment, said. “It was an honor to be a part of her milestone birthday and to witness the transformative power of reconnecting with one’s ancestral roots.”

As she sets out on a journey that celebrates the woman she once was and honors who she has become, audiences will get to see Union at her most vulnerable. She will follow her ancestors’ footsteps in this series, gain insight, let go of what doesn’t serve her anymore and invite others to do the same as she celebrates her most genuine self.

Union travels through several captivating African countries, including Tanzania and South Africa.

Tanzania, found in East Africa, is renowned for its abundant wildlife, fascinating culture, and spectacular scenery. It is also the location of Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest peak in Africa. The archipelago is highly regarded for its stunning beaches, rich history, and eclectic array of cultural attractions.

Over 120 distinct ethnic groups call Tanzania home, and each has its own set of values and practices. Several ancient cultures, including the Maasai and the Swahili, have their roots in this country. The locals are well-liked for their friendly demeanor and generous hospitality.

South Africa is a culturally rich and diverse destination at the very bottom of the African continent. Kruger National Park is the habitat of an extensive range of wildlife, including big cats, elephants, buffalo, and rhinoceroses. Cape Town, a city on the coast, is another point of interest in South Africa. Beautiful beaches, breathtaking scenery, and exciting nightlife can all be found in this city. The wine produced in South Africa has earned international acclaim. The vineyards in this country are spread out across some of the world’s most beautiful scenic views.
