Spotlight on

Yep Roc

The past two decades have been a rough time for old-media distributors, whether you’re talking about book publishers, record companies or (yes) newspapers. Yet somehow, Triangle-based Yep Roc Records keeps on keepin’ on. The label has one of the best Americana-leaning rosters in the country, with acts including Nick Lowe, Dave and Phil Alvin, Los Straitjackets and Tony Joe White. Those and more will play Oct. 20-21 at Carrboro’s Cat’s Cradle as part of Yep Roc 20, marking the label’s 20-year anniversary. See catscradle.com for details.

Avett Brothers

No matter how far afield they travel, Concord’s Avett Brothers always come home for the holidays – which they wrap up with a big New Year’s Eve show somewhere in North Carolina. And 2017 will be the Triangle’s turn in the rotation, for the first time since 2014 turned into 2015. The Americana stars will play Raleigh’s PNC Arena on Dec. 31, ringing in 2018 as only they can. See thepncarena.com for details.
