‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’ turns 30, and we’re reminded why travel makes us nervous
On Nov. 20, the Rialto Theatre in Raleigh will show John Hughes’ comedy classic “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” as part of the Monday at the Movies series to celebrate both the film’s 30th anniversary and the upcoming holiday season.
Steve Martin and John Candy star as mismatched traveling companions who get into all kinds of zany mischief while trying to get home to Chicago for Thanksgiving. The hilarious farce’s supporting cast includes Laila Robins, Michael McKean and Dylan Baker. Also watch for familiar faces from other Hughes films such as Kevin Bacon, who appeared in Hughes’ following film “She’s Having a Baby” in 1989, and Edie McClurg and Ben Stein, who both appeared in Hughes’ 1985 fan favorite “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”
“Planes, Trains, and Automobiles” starts at 7 p.m. $5. Details: 919-856- 8683 or ambassadorcinemas.com.
