If you want to find anything related to the arts at UNC, there’s an app for that

A new app launched at UNC-Chapel Hill this week to shine a light on the arts offered on campus.

The free Arts Everywhere app is considered a “one-stop shop” for events of all kinds – music, visual, theatrical, dance and more.

Users not only will be able to use the app’s calendar to learn of such events, but they’ll be able to get custom recommendations, find out what events are trending on campus and share their interests with other users.

The app is the newest component of the Arts Everywhere initiative launched in 2016 by Chancellor Carol Folt. Arts Everywhere, part of the university’s $4.25 billion fundraising effort, the Campaign for Carolina, maintains that art doesn’t have to be learned in a studio but can be integrated in daily life and other curriculum.

The free Arts Everywhere app at UNC-Chapel Hill connects users to a variety of arts on campus. Users can use the app’s calendar to learn of events, get custom recommendations, find out what events are trending on campus and share their interests with other users.

“We are committed to making our arts initiatives, departments and programs even more visible, and to supporting them as they continue to inspire innovation, discussion and reflection about creativity and the world,” Folt said in a news release.

As part of the launch, Dorrance Dance has been on campus for a week-long residency. There have been pop-up performances around campus, including a freestyle dance battle Tuesday.

Michelle Dorrance, a Chapel Hill native and 2015 MacArthur Fellow, is an acclaimed choreographer. She will take part Wednesday in a talk with her father, UNC Women’s Soccer Head Coach Anson Dorrance, on “The Art of Excellence.” The conversation is at 6 p.m. at Gerrard Hall.

On Jan. 25, there will be a pop-up performance at 12:15 p.m. at FedEx Global Education Center and Koury Atrium.

All events are free.

The Arts Everywhere app is available to download for iPhone and Android devices.
