Alamo Cinema Drafthouse screens slate of comedic classics

On July 27, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is showing Jeff Kanew’s 1989 comedy “Troop Beverly Hills” at 7:15 p.m. On July 28, it’s the 40th anniversary screening of John Landis’ comedy classic “Animal House” at 7:15 p.m.

On July 30 through Aug. 2, it’s the 1998 animated hit “The Prince of Egypt” at 11 a.m. as part of the Kids Camp series. Also on July 30 and 31, there will be Movie Party showings of Thomas Schlamme’s 1993 comedy “So I Married an Axe Murderer” and David Zucker’s “Baseketball” at 7: 15 p.m.

On Aug. 2, the 2005 NASCAR comedy “Talladega Nights” starring Will Ferrell screens at 6:45 p.m, and Melvin Van Peebles’ 1971 crime thriller “Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song” screens at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are $5 for each film except for the Kids Camps series which is $3. July 27, the Carolina Theatre in Durham is presenting a double feature consisting of Russ Meyer’s 1965 cult classic “Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!,” followed by Paul Verhoeven’s 1995 drama “Showgirls,” The double bill begins at 7, and admission is $9. Details: 919-560-3030 or carolinatheatre.org.

July 27, the N.C. Museum of Art’s Summer Outdoor Movie series continues with Michael Showalter’s 2017 romantic comedy “The Big Sick,” starring Kumail Nanjiani and Zoe Kazan. July 29, the Cary Theater is showing Thomas Piper’s 2018 documentary “Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf” at 2 p.m. On July 31, Jeremy Grant’s 2018 documentary “North of Nightfall,” presented by Triangle Off-Road Cyclists, is at 6:30 p.m.

On Aug. 1, the theater hosts the Motion for Pictures Screening Series, a program presented by Triangle Filmmaking Community, at 7 p.m. On Aug. 2, Julie Cohen and Betsy West’s 2018 documentary “RBG” screens at 7 p.m., followed by Paul McGuigan’s 2017 drama “Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool” at 9:15 p.m. Tickets are $3-$5 for each film except for the “North of Nightfall” event, which is $7-$10. July 19, the Raleigh Little Theatre continues their “Movies in the Garden” series with Emile Ardolino’s 1992 comedy “Sister Act.” Free. 8:30 p.m. (concessions and food trucks open at 7 p.m.) The screening will be held in the Stephenson Amphitheatre next to the Raleigh Rose Garden.
