What to Watch on Tuesday: New ‘Soul Train’ drama explores the hippest trip in America

American Soul (9 p.m., BET) - This new dramatic series, set in the early 1970s, is about the struggle to make the dream of the “Soul Train” TV show a reality. It covers battles with record labels for top talent, off camera drama as dancers compete for the spotlight, and a 30-something Don Cornelius sacrificing everything to make his dream come true. Tonight’s premiere has back-to-back new episodes. Sinqua Walls plays Don Cornelius, Kelly Rowland plays Gladys Knight, Michelle Williams plays Diana Ross, Bobby Brown plays Rufus Thomas, Gabrielle Dennis plays Tina Turner and McKinley Freeman plays Ike Turner.
